Volunteering
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
At Edna Batey Elementary School, we recognize the importance of parents and guardians being involved in their children’s education. We welcome and encourage you to actively participate in your child’s school experience. The information below is designed to help you understand the ways you may become involved and the clearance requirements for volunteering.
Volunteer Clearance
The Elk Grove Unified School District requires all volunteers to be officially cleared before beginning any volunteer service or assignment. A volunteer is an unpaid individual who, with District authorization, regularly assists students, schools, or educational programs.
To be cleared, prospective volunteers must 1) complete the required volunteer application packet, 2) complete mandated training through Public School Works, and 3) complete a California Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation Live Scan fingerprint/background check. The mandated training is approximately 60 minutes. Live Scan clearance may take several weeks, so families interested in volunteering should begin the process well in advance of any planned activity or event.
Volunteer application materials are available through the EGUSD HR Forms and Resources page. EGUSD Human Resources can be reached at (916) 686-7795.
Current volunteers who already have valid fingerprints on file with the District are required to complete the mandated training within six weeks of the start of school. Failure to complete required documentation may result in removal from the Volunteer Clearance List.
All volunteers serve at the discretion of EGUSD. The District reserves the right to authorize, deny, or revoke authorization for school and classroom volunteers at any time.
For questions about the volunteer clearance process, please contact the school office or EGUSD Human Resources Compliance at (916) 686-7795. Fingerprinting questions may also be directed to Fingerprinting@egusd.net.
